The restoration story

Owners June and Brian Morton acquired Middleton Hall and set about returning the house to its mid‑19th‑century grandeur. As work progressed, they restored parquet floors, fretwork and dado panelling, uncovered marble fireplaces imported from France, Italy and the former Austro‑Hungarian Empire, and even commissioned a specialist to recreate a missing 6′×8′ plaster ceiling panel patterned with fruits and foliage.

“We just fell in love with it. We wanted to turn it back into the wonderful Victorian home it once was when the Leather family built it.”
— June Morton, Owner

Converted into apartments in 1965 (after a period as a military convalescence home), the property needed comprehensive remedial work: rot treatment, roof repairs, replastering and sympathetic services upgrades. The main Hall is now offered as a de‑luxe self‑catering venue, while the family lives in the North Wing.

Cast iron’s heat retention suits high‑ceilinged rooms, delivering even warmth long after the boiler cycles.

Heating large period spaces — why cast iron?

High‑ceilinged reception rooms need steady output and authenticity. Reproduction cast iron column radiators deliver both: they look correct in heritage interiors and their thermal mass provides long, even warmth.

  • Authentic look: period‑correct silhouettes and section profiles.
  • Comfort: high thermal mass smooths temperature swings.
  • Durability: robust construction and timeless finishes.
“The website had the perfect period‑style cast iron column radiators with a great range of colours — and the prices were far better. The after‑sales service was excellent too.”
— Brian Morton, Owner

— June Morton
“Now they’re installed, the radiators fit in so well and give the rooms an air of authenticity — and cast iron retains the warmth a lot longer.”
— Brian Morton
