Do all radiators need a 15mm valve?

Yes. The BSP standard in the UK for radiators is to have a 15mm entry at either end. No matter what size, shape or style of radiator you’re buying, the valve will always be the same size. 

What is the BSP standard?

BSP stands for British Standard Pipe. It is an industry-wide standard for the size of the threading a radiator has for a valve. 

My 15mm radiator doesn’t fit correctly. Why?

When your valve doesn’t fit, the problem isn’t usually with the valve but with the pipes you’re attaching too. While 15mm is the standard, many homes will have 10mm and 8mm pipe centres. 

Your pipe centres could be smaller due to the age of the house or simply due to budget when building (smaller pipes = lower cost on using copper) 

If you do have smaller pipes, there’s no need to worry. We have valves available with reducers for 10mm pipes and 8mm pipes. 

How to choose the right 15mm radiator valve

We say it’s always best to have your valves match either your existing pipework, the colour of your radiator, or the tone of existing fittings in the room. 

For example, if you have chrome light switches and plug sockets, having a chrome valve may fit in better than a black one. If you’re worried about the radiator and valve not matching the colour of your pipes, we do have a small selection of pipe covers for sale.
