Here at Trade Radiators, we’re always trying to find new ways to keep the UK nice and toasty. A big part of being a radiator company is striving to find advances in home heating technology which are more environmentally friendly.
Cast iron radiators excel in heat retention, outperforming modern steel or aluminum radiators. They emit heat long after the boiler stops, ensuring even heat distribution and lasting warmth. This makes them ideal for draughty spaces or rooms with high ceilings, offering a steady and comfortable temperature. Their efficiency is particularly beneficial in challenging environments for maintaining warmth.
Can cast iron radiators be used with modern heating systems?
Cast iron radiators are compatible with modern, high-pressure, energy-efficient boilers that operate at lower temperatures to save energy, despite their traditional design and material. They are a great option if you are looking to add a period aesthetic to your home.
What maintenance do cast iron radiators require?
Maintaining a new cast iron radiator is very simple; it involves regular cleaning to prevent efficiency loss due to dust accumulation, using a vacuum, and using a damp cloth. Annual bleeding is recommended to release trapped air, ensuring optimal hot water flow and heating performance. Additionally, checking and replenishing system inhibitor levels as needed is crucial for maintaining their operational efficiency.
How do you install cast iron radiators?
Installing a cast-iron radiator is really no different from a normal radiator; the main factor to consider is that they require careful handling due to their weight. Because of this, it is worth noting that the radiator may be supplied in two blocks that will need assembling on site. In this case, you will need a joining tool to join the two blocks together; it's a straight-forward process, and all gaskets and threaded parts are included. Connecting a cast iron radiator together.
How do you size a cast iron radiator for a specific room?
Sizing a cast iron radiator for a specific room involves calculating the heat output required to efficiently heat the space, taking into account factors such as room dimensions, window size and type, insulation levels, and the intended room temperature. Check our BTU heating calculator to determine the correct size required.
How long do cast iron radiators last?
Cast iron radiators are renowned for their longevity and durability, often lasting for several decades or even a century with proper maintenance. Unlike modern steel or aluminium radiators, which may have a shorter lifespan due to corrosion or damage, cast iron radiators are robust and resistant to wear and tear. Their solid construction and timeless design contribute to their enduring popularity and reputation for longevity in both residential and commercial settings.
Do cast iron radiators provide a different type of heat?
Cast iron radiators deliver a distinct, consistent warmth, preferred for their gentle and even heat distribution. Their substantial mass allows them to retain heat longer, ensuring a gradual and even distribution of heat throughout a room without the rapid temperature changes common with modern radiators.
