Column radiators are sized to the wall, not the room, which is why the size grid matters more than the model name. Height sets the visual proportion. Width and column count set the output.

• Standard heights: 400mm, 500mm, and 1800mm for verticals
• Square and near-square: 600 x 600 suits alcoves and short wall runs
• Wide horizontals: 600 x 1200, 600 x 1400, and 1600mm wide for open-plan and living room walls

If wall depth is the constraint rather than length, slim radiators project less from the wall at the cost of output per unit width.

What colours do modern column radiators come in?

You’ll only have the option of a gloss white (RAL 9016) or contemporary anthracite finish. Both are powder-coated, which resists chipping and corrosion better than chrome plating and needs only a wipe to clean.

If you need a colour outside the two stock options, the custom colour column radiators range covers the full RAL chart, including black, greys, greens, and metallic finishes.

Beyond painted finishes, the column profile is also available in metal finishes: copper, brass, bronze, and raw metal. These carry a price premium over powder-coated steel.

How long do modern radiators last?

A modern steel column radiator with inhibited system water typically lasts 15 to 20 years. Cast iron on the other hand can outlast the building. Internal sludge, cold spots at the bottom, pinhole leaks, and rooms that no longer reach temperature are the signals to replace.

Do modern column radiators help cut energy use?

Yes. Modern column radiators are built for low-temperature heating systems, so they deliver full output without the high flow temperatures older heating relied on. 

Aluminium columns respond fastest and suit heat pump systems best. Output drops as flow temperature falls, so size to your room's heat loss at the lower temperature.

How many columns do I need when choosing a radiator?

The number of columns you need depends on the amount of heat a space continually needs.

Now it is important to note that when someone refers to the number of columns on a radiator, they’re not talking about the number of columns you see on the front/façade of the radiator.

The columns are what you see when looking at the radiator side on. The more you have, the more opportunity for cold air to come in contact with the radiator, heat up and rise.
